For my project i will be focusing on the nature you see in various parks around Liverpool. I have chosen this project because i have been to various parks around Liverpool and they have all offered something different. There are many different parks around Liverpool to find different things like wildlife. The park i will get most of my work from will probably be Sefton park because it is a huge park with different sections that have the potential to make interesting photographs.
By the end of the project i hope to have taken photographs of the different types of nature that live in parks across Liverpool and to be able to capture what makes the parks in Liverpool so special through photography. I also hope that my photographs show the best of the parks, which could convince people to travel to the different parks and see them form themselves. I will display these photographs on weekly in different ways. For example, some of the photographs may be panoramic and some of them may have filters.
The work of other Photographers:
Thomas Heaton:
Thomas Heaton hails from the UK, northeast to be more exact. He makes his mark in outdoor photography by focusing on landscapes and nature. His youtube channel is widely known. It’s full of tips and techniques to help the viewers capture better images. His friendly and insightful approach to his work brings him many appreciative followers.
His work can help me with my project because he focuses on landscapes and nature. He takes his photographs in different weather conditions, as you can see above, and this makes them look more interesting. Form example, the photograph above on the left is just a photograph of trees. However because they have been taken on a foggy day it adds more to the photograph and makes it look a lot better than a normal photograph of trees.
I particularly like this photograph taken by Thomas Heaton because the ray of light in the photograph attracts the viewer and brings their attention to the tree, which is the focus of the photograph. I can try to add this effect to my photographs by making the photograph darker and highlighting a certain spot so it stands out in photoshop.
Eliot Porter:
Eliot Porter (1901 - 1990) was an american photographer who was best known for his nature and landscape photography which featured lots of colour. Porter began using colour in his photographs because his book was rejected by a publisher because it featured black and white photographs which failed to differentiate the different species of wildlife in his book.
His photographs can help inspire my work because the colour that he features in his photographs makes them look good and i can edit my photographs and increase the saturation to make the colour stronger which can make them look more like Eliot Porters photographs.
This photograph in particular can help me with my project because it's focus is on the trees and their colours. As my project is centered around parks, trees will be a big part. I will likely not be able to achieve these colours in my photographs so i will add these types of colours in photoshop to make my photographs more vibrant.
Various Photographers: Panoramic
These photographs are all panoramic photographs of nature. Panoramic photographs allow the photographer to capture the entire scene within one photograph. I personally like the two photographs that i highlighted in green because i believe that out of the photographs shown, the panoramic technique especially helps these two because without it you would be missing out on a lot of the landscape that is shown within the photograph.
These photographs will help me with my project because i believe that a lot of my photographs would benefit from being panoramic because some of the parks have scenes that you cannot capture within a normal photograph, so this technique will be used in my project. These panoramic photographs work well because they have good lighting and colour, so i will need to edit my photographs in this style.
This photograph in particular can help me with my project because it is taken in a similar setting to where i will be taking my photographs. What makes this photograph stand out is the orange because it gives the sense of autumn and this colour looks more interesting than the basic green colour. As most of my photographs will be taken between in the summer, i will not be able to capture this colour in my photographs. Therefore i will need to edit my photographs in photoshop and add this colour myself.
Various Photographers: Parks
I couldn't find a photographer who specifically focuses on parks so i am looking at park photographs taken by a number of different photographers. These photographs will help me with my project because they can give me ideas on how to make my photographs look more interesting. As you can see above, the photographs have good lighting and colour. In my opinion, the best photographs are the ones that look as though they were taken in autumn time. I like these particular photographs because during autumn the trees have a nice orange colour which looks better than the basic green colour you get the rest of the year. I also like the photographs that have been taken as the sun is going down. These photographs stand out to me because the sun and the sky becomes a nice orange colour and during this time the lighting is nice because it is not as bright as it is earlier in the day.
Some of my own Photographs:
Sefton Park
Photoshop:
I have edited these photographs that i took from Sefton park and made two of them panoramic. I have also removed anything in the photograph that could be taking the attention away from the park. I have changed the colour of the trees and have added a bit of orange to them. I have done this to make the photograph look like it was taken in autumn, and because it adds a different colour to make it look more interesting. Finally i have added a flare to two of the photographs. I have added this because it makes it look like the sun in in the photographs and it adds more colour. On the last photograph i decreased the brightness on everything except the light rays. I did this so the light stands out more and adds more interest to the photograph.
Everton Park
Photoshop: Colour
I have edited these photographs in photoshop because the original photographs are filled with green so i wanted to add more colour to them. These photographs have had the saturation increased or have had the colours changed. By doing this, my photographs reflect the research more. I particularly like the photograph at the top right of the gallery because it is inspired by the work of Thomas Heaton, who has taken close up photographs of trees like the one i have taken. I edited the top right one to give it more of an autumn feel.
